An aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria, fungi and higher eucaryotic cells. Inhibits chain elongation. Widely used as a selection agent for procaryotic and eucaryotic cells carrying the hygromycin resistance gene. Recommended working concentration 100 µg/ml.
